Police find marijuana growing in corn field

Updated: Thu 11:50 PM, Aug 02, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) - From the road, all you can see are tall corn stalks, but from the sky police saw a different plant sprouting up, marijuana.

Officers were directed in from Polo Club Boulevard, near Winchester Road, by the helicopter hovering above. After several hours, and multiple passes over the corn field, police found ten pot plants.

The Lexington police say from the helicopter they could see the ground around the plants was cleared out, making it easier to spot from above.

Police did not comment on camera but say the Narcotics Division is handling the investigation. At this time, police do not know who owns the land, but they do say they recently found other pot plants in the area.

From here the officers on the scene say the plants will be taken back to police headquarters where they will document their discovery and eventually dispose of the plants.
