LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A University of Kentucky student was shot after a robbery gone wrong. The suspects are still at large, but police say the victim and his roommates are facing charges.

It all started just after 11:30 Sunday night at a home on Elizabeth Street. Police say two men went to the home with plans to steal drugs or money. They shot a man twice before going inside. He was shot in the back of his head and lower back.

A woman in the house fired a warning shot which sent the thieves running. Once police got to the scene, they found marijuana and other drug paraphernalia inside the home.

Ainsley Murrell, 21, was arrested for trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school. Another woman, whose name has not been released, was arrested for tampering with physical evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say the victim in this case will likely face charges as well.

Police say the victim underwent surgery overnight. They hope to speak with him once he's stable.

The University of Kentucky police issued a public safety notice to students Monday morning. It suggested several safety precautions that students can take to avoid a similar situation.
