Police release name of man killed in Owsley County shooting

OWSLEY COUNTY, Ky (WKYT) - The Kentucky State Police have confirmed that one man is dead and another remains at UK hospital after shots were fired in Owsley County Saturday night.

Troopers responded to a call for shots fired around 8:20pm Saturday on Seales Road, northeast of Booneville.

71-year-old Abner Gabbard was pronounced dead at the scene by the Owsley County Coroner.

25-year-old Andy Smith was airlifted to UK Hospital with a single gunshot wound to the chest, his condition is unknown at this time.

Smith told troopers he was riding his ATV when Gabbard shot him in the chest.

The incident remains under investigation.
