Police: Bullets that hit nursing home were strays

FLATWOODS, Ky. (AP) - Flatwoods Police say the bullets that hit an employee and a car at a local nursing home on Thursday were strays.

Police Chief Tom Haynes told The Independent investigators traced the bullets to a wooded area about 200 to 250 yards away from the Oakmont Manor.

There officers found trees that were "pretty chewed up" by gunfire along with about 50 spent shell casings.

The incident triggered a lockdown of the Russell Independent Schools.

Police located two 18-year-olds who are believed to have fired the bullets. Haynes did not publicly identify the men but said one of them turned weapons over for examination.

The injured Oakmont employee was able to be treated and released.

Greenup Commonwealth's Attorney Cliff Duvall will determine whether charges should be filed.
