Police swamped with calls of illegal fireworks

Posted: Wed 7:48 AM, Jul 04, 2012

Despite the rain some parts of Central Kentucky saw Tuesday night, a ban on personal fireworks in Lexington is still in effect.

It's not stopping some people.

A WKYT photographer found this group of neighbors shooting off fireworks on Lilac Park in the Gleneagles subdivision.

They told us they were being safe.

Lexington Police have been swamped with calls about illegal fireworks.

WKYT checked with police around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers say some citations were issued.

For a first offense, the fine is $100 for setting off fireworks without a permit.
