POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The charges against a caregiver in Powell County are disturbing. She's accused of abusing an adult with special needs and stealing money from her.
As of Wednesday, sheriff's deputies tell us that Powell County woman is on the run.
A grand jury indicted 49-year-old Ruby Richardson. She was originally arrested two weeks ago but bonded out.
A sheriff's deputy says he knew something was out of place when he showed up at Richardson's home in Powell County, and she wasn't there. He soon realized she had moved out.
She's seemingly on the run, facing felony charges of knowingly neglecting, abusing, and exploiting a 52-year-old woman.
"These crimes that she's allegedly committed are real serious charges," said Deputy Robert Mathews.
The case centers around Richardson allegedly abusing a woman with special needs that she was supposed to be taking care of.
"It's serious," said Deputy Mathews. "I mean this lady could have very easily died."
The details in the case are alarming, including the victim eating dog food just to survive. The woman reportedly weighed around 230 pounds before she was cared by Richardson and now weighs less than 100 pounds.
"I sent her to a doctor here in town. And the report that I got back from him was that she still had three broken ribs," said Deputy Mathews.
Even facing felony charges, sheriff's deputies say they didn't expect for her to disappear.
"In my opinion, her best interest would be to come and turn herself in and face the charges that have been filed against her," said Deputy Mathews.
Since Richardson was arrested, we are told 11 people have stepped forward with new allegations against Richardson.
Those 11 people told Powell County sheriff's deputies that they actually witnessed Richardson beating the woman with several different objects, including a wooden cutting board.
