Power surge causes power outage to parts of UK's campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The University of Kentucky has restored full power to the campus following a morning outage.

A power outage on UK's campus Tuesday morning left the Student Center and several other buildings on northern and central campus without power. A power cable to the Student Center from Substation #2 burned out causing the initial outage.

The power outage then resulted in a power surge which caused servers in IT to fail and affected internet access across campus. UK reports that IT has restored Outlook, Blackboard and Internet Service across campus.

They say power was restored to the Student Center, Barker Hall, Buell Armory and Frazee Hall around 10:40 am. Dining areas are still operating and serving food, but may have limited offerings until they are fully operational.

WKYT will have more updates as they become available.
