FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Some lawmakers are pressing again to overturn what they call an archaic law banning the sale of alcoholic beverages during voting hours on Election Day.
This time, they're citing the economic factors.
Democratic state Rep. Arnold Simpson of Covington told a legislative committee Friday that the ban is costing the state better than $600,000 in lost revenue during primary and general elections.
Simpson said all of Kentucky's neighboring states now allow alcohol sales. He said Kentucky and South Carolina are now the only two states that ban liquor sales.
Simpson, who has been pressing to lift the ban since 2006, said he will introduce a bill in the next session that would allow communities that object to Election Day liquor sales to opt out.
