Reality TV star arrested in Letcher County drug roundup

LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- An eastern Kentucky man who appeared in a reality TV show has been arrested as part of a drug roundup.

The Letcher County Sheriff says Verlin Short is one of 16 people arrested on drug trafficking charges.

Short appeared on "Snake Man of Appalachia," which aired on Animal Planet two years ago.

The show followed Short and his family, who have deep roots in snake handling.

The sheriff says he hopes the drug roundup sends a strong message.

"If you're selling pills, you don't know who you're selling them to. Always remember that you could be recorded or someone could be watching you at the time," said Sheriff Danny Webb.

The sheriff expects more arrests in this case.

"Snake Man of Applachia" no longer airs on Animal Planet.
