Red carpet at Derby 139 full of smiling faces

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - The Kentucky Derby is known to attract a lot of colorful characters. Celebrities like to watch the races at Churchill as well, and this year was no exception.

"I have family who live here so I get a chance to come by. Louisville Slugger right down the street. So I get a chance to come by, but this is the first time that I've been able to come to the Derby and it's a good experience," former Major League Baseball star Ken Griffey Jr. told us.

Everyone walking the red carpet this year didn't let the rain ruin their parade.

"It's wonderful. It's kind of like being back home. I'm originally from Alabama, that's where I grew up. I moved to New York a few years ago, so it's kind of like being back home. Everyone's warm and inviting and there's that drawl and you sell sweet tea that's nice," said Miss America 2013 Mallory Hagan.

"The events are always great. That's the consistent part of the Derby. The Barnstable Brown party was beautiful last night," US Olympian Bode Miller told us.
