Rescue for lost hikers underway in Whitley Co.

A rescue is underway Friday morning in southern Kentucky for hikers stranded near Laurel Lake.

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A rescue is underway Friday morning in southern Kentucky for hikers stranded near Laurel Lake.

Whitley County Emergency Management Director, Danny Moses, tells us four people are trapped after becoming lost while hiking off of Bee Creek Road near the spillway at the lake.

Moses tells us three people became lost while hiking Thursday afternoon. A family member and friend of one of the hikers began looking for the trio when the friend also became stranded with the hikers.

Emergency officials were contacted about the rescue around 4 a.m. Friday morning. Moses tells us emergency crews know where the lost hikers are, but it will take a while to reach them. He tells us one of the hikers may be injured.
