Sayre School students return safe after bus fire

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Sayre School students made it back safe and sound from a field trip Friday night.

The students left early Friday morning for a field trip, and when crossing into Tennessee, the bus started smoking.

"It started out really little, and so everybody went off the bus thinking we were just gonna get right back on, and it just got bigger and bigger and we could do less and less to help it," explained student Dealla Samadi.

"Thankfully some truck drivers were nice enough to pull over and help us with their fire extinguishers," noted student Olivia Fishback, "we hear the tires blowing up, so it was kinda crazy."

No one was hurt, but the bus is destroyed. The owner of the transportation company says it took firefighters more than 30 minutes to respond to the fire.
