SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The arrest citation says she's a wife, a mother, a high school teacher, and now an offender facing charges of sexual abuse of a minor.

"I can't discuss the specifics, but I can tell you we were made aware of it this morning we took immediate action on it," stated Captain Robert Swanigan of the Georgetown Police Department.

Elizabeth Alexander is listed as a social studies teacher on the Scott County school website. The 26-year-old was arrested Tuesday just before noon, and is officially charged with sexual abuse of a minor and use of a minor under 16 in a sexual performance.

Police say they questioned the teacher, who admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old male student.

"Anytime we have a situation like this involving our children, in our community, we're going to take quick action," said Swanigan, adding that investigators did their due diligence to verify the allegations.

In the arrest report, Alexander told police that part of the affair happened inside her classroom. She says she and the 15-year-old kissed and even groped each other in a sexual manner.

"This is a person, that is in essence, we trust our children to go to them. This is someone that's supposed to mold and shape their lives, and teach them, bring them along," stated Swanigan, "You don't expect things like this to happen. It's very unfortunate that it did happen."

Alexander also said she requested that the teen send a picture of his private parts via text to her.

"The things like 'sexting' and things like that are a problem that this generation is going to face. It's very unfortunate that they engage in those types of activities, but they've got to understand that every time they transmit an image like that they are, in essence, transmitting child pornography," answered Swanigan.

While it's early in the investigation, police say they believe this is the only student Alexander was involved with, but they say it's still early in the case.

Alexander was released from jail Tuesday afternoon. We went to her home for a comment, but no one answered the door. She is set to appear in court on May 1st.
