Elliott County Coroner Mark Lewis says 28-year-old Brandon Bailey, from Raceland, was walking on rocks with co-workers fifty feet above Grayson Lake last night when he slipped and fell to his death.
"If you see it once, it's too many times. We see it so often down here. It's happened not just here, but other state parks across the state. This one's had more than its fair share," said Lewis.
He says the accident happened between 5:30 and 6:30 last night, when heavy rain was making the rocks very slippery. He says right now, there's no evidence that Bailey was jumping into the lake below, but it has happened before.
"If you have one, it seems like ten. One's bad enough. The family's torn up, you know. The kids don't seem to understand that there's rocks, there's stumps, there's trees. Too many kids just don't heed the warnings and they continue to jump and these things will continue to happen," said Lewis.
Crews had to suspend search efforts overnight as storms rolled through the area. They recovered Bailey's body around 11:30 this morning.
Lewis says Bailey's body will be sent to Frankfort for an autopsy. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife is handling the investigation.
