Section of Ohio River bridge demolished

MILTON, Ky. (AP) - Workers have demolished a 700-foot section of the old Milton, Ky.-Madison, Ind., bridge using controlled explosives.

Louisville media reported the blast took place Tuesday shortly after 9 a.m.

Transportation officials say the new U.S. 421 bridge and several roads with a 1,000-foot safety perimeter were closed before the blast.

The new $100 million Ohio River bridge and affected roads are expected to reopen to traffic Tuesday afternoon.
