ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Several hours after eastbound I-64 was shut down at the scene of an overturned tractor-trailer The Kentucky Department of Highways is reporting that the scene is now clear. Interstate 64 eastbound has reopened and the detour has ended.
Kentucky State Police had the Interstate shut down for several hours after responding to an accident involving a tractor-trailer which had the eastbound lanes of I-64, just before the Morehead exit in Rowan County, shut down, for several hours Saturday morning.
The call came in around 4:10am Saturday morning. A Semi versus a second vehicle. We're told the Semi overturned, spilling its load onto the roadway and trapping both of its occupants.
The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured in the accident.
Both of the driver and the passenger had to be extricated from the Semi, and were transported to a local hospital in Morehead. Police say the second driver was transported to UK Hospital for their injuries.
Both drivers were listed in serious condition at the time of the accident, no update is available for their conditions at this time.
