Senate Dems to try passing debt ceiling increase

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrats who control the Senate will try as early as today to pass a stand-alone measure to raise the government's borrowing ability, giving it enough credit until next year's elections.

The Senate move comes as the partial government shutdown enters its eighth day with no end in sight.
