WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate continues debate today on a wide-ranging gun control bill and an amendment that proposes background checks for gun purchases online and at gun shows.

Republican opposition is growing to the bipartisan proposal, struck last week by Republican Patrick Toomey and Democrat Joe Manchin.

But the senators say the vote on their amendment is likely to be delayed, which would give them time to round up more supporters.
