PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A frightening ordeal for a southern Kentucky couple. Police say their own son threatened to kill them, then fired shot at them during an argument at their Pulaski County home.
50-year-old Anthony Merrick has now been charged with attempted murder.
Pulaski County deputies got the call Thursday morning. They say a 50-year-old man was threatening to kill his parents inside their home on Highway 1247.
A 911 caller said, "I don't know, it's my neighbor's across the street. I was in my van, I just got home. I heard a pop that I thought was a tire, and I heard somebody yelling and I went over there. Somebody said there was a gun, and he was laying in the driveway bleeding."
A neighbor in a 911 emergency recording described what he heard and saw.
Dispatch said, "Can you tell if the guy's breathing or not?" Caller, "It looks like he's still breathing. I don't know."
Deputies tell us 50-year-old Anthony Merrick got in an argument with his parents, then threatened to kill them.
They say he even fired off a few shots from his rifle. WKYT has learned his parents fought him, disarmed him, got out of the home and called for help. When deputies arrived, they found Anthony Merrick laying in the driveway, injured.
Police actually arrested Merrick in Lexington. He was at UK Hospital for what deputies say were injuries he had before the argument.
The extent of Merrick's injuries are unknown. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder.
We're told Merrick's parents were not injured. They did not want to talk to us about what happened.
