BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - No one will argue that a triple shooting-suicide in Bell County isn't a terrible crime. Police say a father, son, and daughter were shot inside their home, and only the daughter, 21-year-old Robin Smith, survived. Investigators say 51-year-old Raymond Smith, a former Knox County Judge Executive, was behind the shooting.

"It still's such a shock, how someone have the heart to do a family like that," said Robin Smith in a phone interview from her hospital bed.

This isn't just her nightmare, this is Robin Smith's reality.

"We were all asleep when my dad answered the door, and he hollered my name and then the next thing I know there he (Raymond Smith) was busting down my bedroom door with a gun pointed at my head. My brother came from behind him and starting fighting him off because I had my nephew with me," recalled the victim.

Robin started running for the door as she says Smith took aim.

"My brother hit his arm so he couldn't shoot me in the head, he shot me in my back. I went and ran and hid outside with the baby. My brother was in there and fought him off, and then he followed the blood trail from where I'd be shot but he didn't find us. He finally turned around and left."

That's when Robin saw her chance to get to a phone and call for help, and that's also when she found her dad, Michael, 50, and brother, Mychael Dustin, 21, dead inside the home.

"My dad, I don't think he gave any warning, as soon as he opened the door I think he had a gun on him," said Robin.

Police say Raymond Smith left Robin Smith's house in Bell County, drove to his father's grave in Knox County, and shot himself. Raymond Smith died at the hospital a short time later. Many were left wondering what sent the former county leader to this point.

Robin Smith answered, "We used to talk and hang out and stuff, we were never in a serious relationship but the last couple months I didn't want him around at all."

She went on to say, "He felt like he wanted to own me, a psychotic.. I don't know what would drive anybody to do something."

Police believe Raymond Smith was angry over how this relationship ended, and that is what lead to the shootings.

Robin is still recovering at a Tennessee hospital and is left thinking of her family that she lost in this surprise attack.

"Obviously, you know, we love each other a lot for them to take a bullet for their family."

Family members say Robin Smith is expected to recover from her injuries.
