Somerset teen sentenced for attack on friend's parents

PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A Pulaski County teen, charged with trying to kill his friend's parents, learned his punishment on Thursday.

Paul Scott Young was charged with two counts of attempted murder. The charges stemmed from an attack on his friend's parents, as they slept inside their home near Somerset.

The attack at the couple's home happened in January. At that time, the victim, Edwin Phelps, told WKYT that he had just gotten up to use the restroom, when he was attacked in his bedroom. Phelps told WKYT that he suffered a fractured skull and was cut at least 10 times in the attack. He was able to fight with the intruder and keep him from harming his wife until police arrived.

Police say that the Phelps' son conspired with Young to kill his parents. Young pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and was sentenced to 10 years on each count. The Phelps' son was also charged and is currently scheduled for a trial next month.
