MOREHEAD, Ky. (WKYT) - A high school student is in the hospital after being hit by a car.
The accident happened in front of Rowan County High School on Monday morning.
According to the principal of the school, the girl had just been dropped off by her mother, and was in the crosswalk when she was hit by a car.
"There's nobody out here that an validate anybody else's speed, but the question is gonna remain; was there speed involved, was she paying attention? That I just don't know," said Rowan County High School Principal Ray Ginter.
The girl was rushed to St. Clair hospital in Morehead. Principal Ginter called our newsroom late Monday morning and said the girl is getting one stitch in her head, and being sent home to recover.
Even with the good news, Ginter says school officials are already taking steps to keep this from happening again.
"There's never been a problem here. But with this, this morning, we already addressed the situation. We have a teacher assigned to it in the morning and in the afternoon with a vest on. They'll be standing out here to make sure that nothing happens again," Ginter said.
Investigators tell WKYT they will be presenting information from the case to the county attorney's office.
