WASHINGTON (AP) - A new study says over the past 23 years, more than 2,000 people have been wrongly convicted and exonerated of serious crimes, such as homicide and sexual assault.
Researchers at the University of Michigan and Northwestern University say more than 870 of those cases have detailed information, which shows each of those defendants spent an average of 11 years behind bars before being freed.
