WOLFE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Police in Wolfe County are searching for an armed suspect after a violent home break-in.
Officials say a man was attacked just outside his home Thursday night after the burglars broke into his home and stole five guns.
Police now say they are concerned the burglars are still on the loose with the stolen weapons.
Not only was a man's home burglarized, he was also assaulted as the thieves made their escape. Sheriff's deputies say they need tips to find the people responsible.
The victim was returning to his home on Ky-205 Thursday night around 11:00. He tells police he was going in through the front door, but as he approached the home he heard a noise around the back and went to see what it was.
Michael Caudill of the Wolfe County Sheriff's Department says, "At that point as he walked up, an unknown subject, possibly more than one, struck him with a blunt instrument in the face which pretty much knocked him unconscious."
That thief, or thieves, got away with five guns, two rifles, two shotguns and a 9mm handgun.
Caudill says he approached the scene from one direction, the victims father came from another. Neither of them saw any other vehicles so Caudill says its possible someone else picked the thief up, or they may have ran to a nearby four wheeler trail to escape.
Caudill says knowing the person who did this is now armed means finding them is of even greater importance.
"That always poses a larger threat anytime that there's firearms that taken from the home."
The victim's brother says he is recovering but he says that attack left him with some very visible injuries on his face.
Deputies say they have seen an increase in crimes like this one across the county in the past year.
