Theft suspect claims to be taking donations for Georgetown homeless shelter

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - Georgetown police are searching for a man stealing donations that are supposed to go to the homeless.

The Gathering Place Mission, a non-profit organization that helps the homeless, says someone is going door-to-door asking for donations on its behalf.

The mission says they do not solicit donations. So far, the mission says the man has hit several business asking for cash.

"They have used a couple of stories that mission was going to build a women's facility and take cash donations to take care of utility bills, " said Debbie Maynard, a worker at the mission.

As of now, the mission does not know of how much the man may have gotten away with so far.

Georgetown police are investigating. Police tell us the suspect a white man, around 6'0 tall in his thirties with dark hair and tobacco stained teeth.
