Thousands head to Commonwealth Stadium for "Color Me Rad" 5K

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)-Commonwealth Stadium was packed with runners, walkers and joggers for the first "Color Me Rad" 5K on campus.

The race is designed to lift the spirits of runners by "bombing" them with neon shades including pink, yellow, green, blue and orange. The powder is corcn starch and dye and is washable.

Today's event raised mobey for the Ronald McDonald House in Lexington. Members of Alpha Delta Pi helped organize the event.

"We just love the Ronald McDonald House,"explained Faye Christian, a member of Alpha Delta Pi. "It is a cause really close to our hearts."

Christian was stationed near the finish line, "bombing" runners with neon pink poweder.

The Ronald McDonald House provides reduced cost housing for people with hospitalized children. In 2012, The Ronald McDonald House in Lexington provided more than 6,100 nights of lodging to 440 families. Supporting a charity like that left many tickled pink.

"We just love the house and the kids and their families," Christian said.
