Thousands of dollars worth of copper stolen from cell tower overnight

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police are keeping an eye out for stolen copper wire, after someone broke into a cell tower overnight doing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

Lexington police say they are unsure how many people were involved in the incident but the thief or thieves were able to steal over $2,000-$3,000 worth of copper from an AT&T tower and over $1,000 worth of damage to its surrounding fence sometime overnight on Sunday.

Police are unsure if there were any interruptions to cell service in the area.

So far police have not made any arrests.
