Thousands without power after overnight storms

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Although most of the Commonwealth avoided major storm damage overnight thousands of people, especially in the eastern part of the state woke up in the dark Friday morning.

In Lexington lightning struck in the area of Athens-Boonesboro Road and knocked out power to over 400 customers for several hours overnight Friday. That power was restored to all customers by 4a.m.

Other than Fayette County, Kentucky Utilities reported over 1,500 customers without power at the peak of the storms overnight, with nearly 500 in Harrison County.

Kentucky Power reported over 8,000 customers without power at one point in time. As of 6:30 a.m. Friday There were still nearly 8,000 customers in 8 counties. Including over 1,500 in Perry, Pike and Martin Counties. Over 1,000 customers are also without power in Floyd County and several hundred in Leslie, Breathitt and Knott Counties.
