BREATHITT CO, Ky. (WKYT) - The Breathitt County coroner says four men were killed, one was injured, and one is behind bars after a DUI crash near Jackson.
"I lost my son but I feel so bad for the other ones too," said Brenda Fugate.
She says the last time she saw Pearl Armstrong, her 19-year-old son, he was fighting for his life in an ambulance.
"I asked him not to die. He said, 'I can't make it mom,' and he died on the way out and the other two boys were already dead. It's so horrible," Fugate said through tears.
State police tell WKYT the crash also killed Adam Fugate, a 31-year-old father of four, and 24-year-old Lee Campbell.
On Saturday the coroner tells us Joshua Thorpe, 20, was pronounced dead. They say that he was in the back of a pickup truck and thrown out in the accident.
"They went to school together. They were all best friends," Fugate said.
Police say the six friends piled into a truck, two in the cab and four in the bed of the pickup around 9:45 Wednesday night.
According to investigators, they crashed when the driver lost control, slamming into a house on Kentucky 3193.
Two of the three survivors were airlifted to UK Hospital. One later died.
State police tell WKYT that one those men, 21-year-old Marcus Jones, is in stable condition.
The man behind the wheel is in jail.
Shawn Hardin, 19, is charged with DUI, three counts of murder and two counts of assault.
An emotional Fugate said, "He admitted to it. He was sitting there crying, all of his friends were dead.”
She says that makes her son's death much more painful because she doesn't want to believe his best friend is responsible.
