Police: Toyota employee shot himself near Georgetown plant

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - A Toyota employee was shot very close to the Georgetown Toyota plant Monday night. On Tuesday morning, police told WKYT that the man shot himself.

The shooting happened near the back side of the Toyota property on an access road. The man told police that he stopped his truck there while coming back from his lunch break, and was approached by someone with a gun. After a short struggle for the gun, he says it went off and a bullet hit him.

The victim also told police that he tried to shoot back at the suspect with his own gun, but police say it doesn't appear that he managed to hit the suspect.

After questioning from police, officers tell WKYT that the victim admitted to shooting himself.

Police say his injuries are not life-threatening.

Toyota has issued a statement saying that at no time were any employees in the plant at risk..
