The snow removal process actually started Thursday when crews laid downsalt brine, which is supposed to take care of the first layer of snow accumlation. Now the real problems are expected to start later tonight..when the temperatures take a nose dive. That's when the work of some folks who work in the state's Transportation Operations Center..are expected to get real busy. That's where they have access to see roadways all over Kentucky..with the help of some 250 cameras from Paducah to Pikeville.
"They're tracking a lot of things, how much salt is being used, where it is being used, tracking the storm," said Incident Management Director Jeff Bibb.
Many who monitor road conditions work 8 to 10 hour shifts...but their job won't be done until the snow event ends.
