LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - It's described as a complex game of tag that was played by students at Transylvania University, but last night it turned serious when a student says a car warned him the red bandana he was wearing for the game could get him shot.

The game is called "Humans vs. Zombies," and it's a game of tag that spans the course of several days. According to Robert Brown, the Associate Dean of Student Affairs at the university, the game is played where one student starts as a zombie and tries to tag other students, called "humans," turning them into more zombies. The game continues for a set number of days or until there everyone is tagged. In the game, the "zombies" are designated with a red bandana.

Brown says Sunday night around 11, one of the students was walking along campus and wearing a red bandana. Brown says the student reported a car stopped him and a guy inside warned him that wearing the color red was a gang color could get him shot.

"I think it's a pretty good example of unintended consequences, we didn't know that would be something that would draw attention," said Brown.

Brown says this game has been played for nearly three years on campus and without an incident before. He said it's run by a student organization and is open to the entire campus to join. This year there were between 12 and 20 students involved.

While no gun was ever shown the university is handling the threat seriously, but they say there does not appear to be any cause for a larger safety concern.

"I don't think it's a big concern, I think our students are responsible and we have a good community. I know that Lexington Police are addressing it and I hope nothing else happens," Brown stated.

Brown went on to say the student organizers scheduled the game to end Tuesday night, but after this incident they've called the whole thing off. Brown said the organizers may attempt to play the game again in the future, and they will likely consider what changes should be made to the game.
