Transylvania University student injured in robbery

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Another robbery has been reported near downtown Lexington.

A college student says a robber stole her purse as she was walking near Transylania University's campus after 11 p.m. Thursday.

Lexington Police say the Transylvania student, who is 19 years old, tried fighting off her attacker in the 400 block of North Broadway.

The robber then punched the young woman in the face.

Police say the victim saw a gun in the robber's pants pocket but continued to try to chase after him.

She followed him to Second Street, where she saw him ride away on a bicycle.

Transylvania and Lexington Police converged on the area, but couldn't find the attacker. Transy officials decided not to issue a safety alert to the campus.

"The suspect fled away from the scene and there was no immediate danger to any students on campus," Chief Gregg Muravchick, Transylvania Director of Public Safety.

No one has been arrested.
