Tubby Smith fired as Minnesota coach

LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) - CBS Sports is reporting, Tubby Smith has been fired after six years as Minnesota's basketball coach.

Smith had a record of 124-81 overall at Minnesota, but he was just 26-42 in Big Ten play. While at Minnesota, made three NCAA tournaments, but never made it to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Golden Gophers' season came to an end this weekend with a 78-64 loss to No. 3 seed Florida.

Smith came to Minnesota from Kentucky in 2007. While with the Wildcats, Smith won the 1998 NCAA national title, a perfect 16–0 regular season SEC record in 2003, AP Coach of the Year, and winning five SEC regular season and tournament titles.
