Two dogs rescued from burning Lexington apartment

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington firefighters tell us they were able to rescue two dogs from a fire in an apartment. The fire started around 2:00 p.m. Monday in a unit of Old Farm apartments on Appian Way. No one was home at the time. Firefighters say a maintenance man heard a smoke alarm inside the apartment and called for help. Firefighters say the fire started in the apartment's kitchen.

"We've also had to cut the electricity because it affected some of the electric circuit in the kitchen. The rest of the apartments in the building should be okay though," says Battalion Chief Mark Harvey with the Lexington Fire Department.

Firefighters still don't know exactly what caused the fire. They say the woman who lives in the apartment won't be able to come back for some time.
