RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Two people were hurt when a stairwell collapsed at a Richmond motel.

The accident happened around 10:45 Tuesday night at the Super Seven Motel on Northgate Drive. The Richmond Fire Department says that two women were on an outdoor stair case when it collapsed.

Two patients were taken to Baptist Health Richmond. One of the women was transferred to UK Hospital. the women complained of neck, back and leg pain. Their conditions are unknown at this time, however, emergency management officials in Richmond say both women had non-life threatening injuries.

Richmond Fire Officials tell us the collapse did not effect the structural integrity of the building. The collapsed area is roped off but the motel is still open for business.

Fire officials say they plan to inspect the building later today to make sure it is up to code. They believe a lack of maintenance is a key contributor to the stairwell collapsing.
