LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) ― The University of Kentucky Police Department released a crime bulletin Wednesday regarding a possible criminal mischief/attempted arson case on campus.
According to UKPD, a fire started Tuesday night at around 10:30 p.m. in the first floor bathroom of the Kirwan 1 Residence Hall. When they got to the fire, UKPD says they noticed a strong burning smell along with pieces of burned toilet paper and ash.
UK Police say the same residence hall has been the target of two previous fires, one where a poster board in the basement was burned and another where burned paper towels were discovered in the second floor bathroom.
UKPD is still investigating whether or not these fires are connected. They do say each fire appeared to have been put out before they were discovered. No injuries have been reported at this time.
"I guess I was a little surprised because it's not something that you typically hear about, but with boys, I guess it's to be expected. I'm just glad it wasn't something worse because I'm sure they could have done a lot worse than set a couple posters on fire," said freshman Lauryn Patton.
Anyone with information regarding these incidents is being asked to contact UK Police at (859) 257-8573.
