UK officials have new security 'game plan' for game days

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The University of Kentucky will kick off its first home football game of the season on Saturday. But with a new year, comes new rules.

In light of recent national events at large public places, the University of Kentucky is implementing extra safety measures at home football games.

UK officials are reminding fans that, this year, only a small bag that fits inside sizing bins at entrance gates will be allowed inside Commonwealth Stadium. No backpacks or large bags will be allowed.

UK officials also ask fans to respect neighbors' yards as they walk to and from games.

University officials say they want everyone to have the most enjoyable game day experience as possible.

"There are numerous construction projects going on, on campus, as well as road construction. So, we encourage everyone to be aware of any road closures or detours and develop an alternate route as necessary," Chief Joe Monroe with the University of Kentucky Police Department.

UK officials say fans can say up to date with game day traffic by following the school's game day twitter accounts.

You can also see a full list of rules by going to the Gameday Central website.
