UK teen fan lighting up the phones lines

This weekend the Wildcats will travel to Tennessee to take on the Vols without their star player.

Its been a rough week for the Big Blue Nation and sports talk radio has been buzzing.

If you are a regular listener to those shows here in Lexington chances are you have heard the young man Amber Philpott is about to introduce you too!

The teenager is crazy for the big blue, separated by quite some distance, but still lighting up the call lines.

If there is one thing UK fans love to do it's talk basketball.

One regular on the call-in shows is simply known as "Michael from Dallas."

13-year-old Michael Messer is known to light up the sports lines to talk what he knows best, his wildcats.

The thing is, when his calls come in, they come from hundreds of miles away!

We decided to call him up and do what he does best chat UK basketball.

"Just being able to call and talk on the radio sometimes is really cool, its just a fun experience and I really like being able to say what I think about the game and give some analogies," said Messer.

Michael and his family live in a suburb of Dallas.

His dad grew up in London, so its in Michael's blood to be blue.

He's loved UK basketball from the time he was a tiny wildcat.

Earlier this month when UK played Texas A&M, Michael was in heaven.

At the game, he snapped photos with UK recruits and was right at home when the Big Blue Nation came to him.

"It was unbelievable, I was expecting there to be a lot of Kentucky fans there cause we all love the Cats so much. We just come together and being 40 to 50 percent Kentucky fans there it was pretty crazy."

Michael sleeps and breathes basketball.

He says he is always looking at ESPN and Top Ten plays to see what his Cats are up to.

He may be in a different time zone, but Michael and his family try and never miss a game.

"I watch pretty much all the games on television if we can or we go to a sports bar here in Dallas. It's a really cool experience about 100 Kentucky fans that go there."

Michael's hope is to come to UK one day, for now though he's content watching, cheering and analyzing his Cats.

And for this season, well Michael simply thinks a leader needs to step up.

Michael, his mom, dad and three siblings get back to Kentucky at least once a year to see family in Laurel County.

Michael says his dream is to see his beloved Cats in Rupp Arena one day.
