WWII era plane giving rides over Lexington

Updated: Mon 10:00 AM, Aug 06, 2012

You may have noticed an unusual sight in the skies of Lexington this weekend.

A World War II era bomber is giving rides, and is on display at the Aviation Museum of Kentucky at Blue Grass Airport.

The B-17, named "Texas Raiders", is owned by the Commemorative Air Force, which flies vintage warbirds across the country to keep the memories of WWII alive.

A woman whose late husband was a B-17 crew member came from Franklin, Kentucky to find out what life aboard the bomber was like all those years ago.

"We just have to keep the memories of World War II alive and keep thinking about all the sacrifices that the boys made," said Dean McMilan Kirsch.

The B-17 will be giving rides again Monday. To find out about ticket information, visit the Aviation Museum of Kentucky's website at www.aviationky.org
