A new bourbon packaging facility in Lawrenceburg will provide dozens of new jobs to the community.
"You know, Kentucky has a secret weapon when it comes to fighting an economic recession. That secret weapon is bourbon," says Gov. Steve Beshear, (D) Kentucky.
State and local leaders are celebrating the grand opening of a 145,000 square foot packaging facility at the Wild Turkey Distillery. It's part of a more than $100-million overall investment in upgrades over a three-year span.
The new site will allow Wild Turkey to have full control of its entire production from distilling, to aging and bottling. The expansion will also create up to 62 new jobs and a $43-million investment.
The company's popular spirit brands include the Wild Turkey Whiskey line and SKYY vodka.
Despite all these changes, Wild Turkey's master distiller says nothing's changed about the product.
"It's down to the way it's made, how it's made. We're still making Wild Turkey bourbon the same way as the day I came here. We haven't changed a thing," says Jimmy Russell, Wild Turkey Master Distiller.
This site in Lawrenceburg is also where the Wild Turkey brand originally began in the 1800's.
The company Gruppo Campari purchased the Wild Turkey brand in 2009.
