Winchester girl recovers from lung transplant

WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - A little girl from Winchester is still recovering after receiving a double lung transplant at Kentucky's Children Hospital.

11-year-old Nicole Tipton has Cystic Fibrosis, but she isn't letting the disease slow her down.

A big journey is in store this weekend for Nicole Tipton.

Nicole's had Cystic Fibrosis since she was born, but over time her lungs have scarred. Over the past month, her mom, Teresa wasn't sure Nicole was going to make it.

She says before she knew it, her little girl was in the hospital, hooked up to IV's, unsure of how her body would react to the transplant.

Nicole has taken to her new lungs, though, and this weekend she plans to get on her bike and ride with other patients to benefit the American Lung Association.

Nicole will have to get the OK from her doctor Friday, before she's able to get on the bike.

Teresa says her daughter is the youngest double lung transplant patient in the state of Kentucky.

Little Nicole will be meeting with the oldest lung transplant patient, who's 83, next week.
