Witnesses: Semi driver ran red light in Danville pile-up

DANVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - According to witnesses, the driver of a semi ran a red light in a crash that involved four vehicles and sent one person to the hospital. The crash happened on the Danville Bypass at the intersection of Lebanon Road on Tuesday afternoon.

The Danville Police Department says that 39-year old Adofo Penny, of Clinton, Maryland, was driving a semi southbound on the Danville Bypass. Witnesses on the scene say that Penny ran a red light at the intersection striking a 1987 Chevrolet pickup. The semi then veered into the oncoming lanes of traffic where it sideswiped a 1998 Ford pickup. The semi then tipped over and landed on a 2004 GMC SUV.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup, 64-year old Clifton Grubbs Jr., was taken to the hospital with neck and back pain. No other injuries were reported.

The northbound lanes of the Danville Bypass were closed for more than seven hours. Crews finally got the crash scene cleared around midnight.
