Woman charged with impersonating nurse says she was "set up"

MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (WKYT) - A woman accused of impersonating a nurse gives us her side of the story from jail and says she was “set up.”

On Saturday, police arrested 40-year-old Samantha Key for allegedly impersonating a nurse at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mount Vernon.

Key says it's all a big misunderstanding.

“I really think I was set up through the whole process by Rockcastle hospital. I was never involved with the patients, I never treated them,” Key told us on Sunday.

Samantha Key claims that she's been working as a registered nurse for the past decade--but Rockcastle Police say otherwise.

Samantha Key told us that she has been working at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital for the past two or three weeks. She says she's still confused why she was arrested Saturday when she says she was just doing her job.

On Sunday, we spoke with Key from jail.

When we asked her what her typical work day was like, Key responded by saying, “I talked to everybody but nobody seemed to know who I was.” When asked what her daily duties and responsibilities were, she wasn't able to give us a direct answer.

“Every day varied, you would have different duties every day. Just a regular work day, your shift started and it just picks up.”

But Key is still behind bars at the Rockcastle County Jail because police say she was doing something she wasn't supposed to be doing.

And for now, there are still many unanswered questions that remain.

Samantha Key is charged with Knowingly Represent/Practice Nursing Without a License 1st Degree.
