Woman hospitalized after bizarre crash in Fayette County

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A woman is in the hospital after a bizarre crash sent her car into a tree and a dump truck into a creek on Thursday morning.

We're told by police that the woman was driving a sedan behind a dump truck on Spears Road near Jacks Creek Pike and tried to pass the truck on a double yellow line.

She drove off the left side of the road, then corrected back into the lane, which caused the dump truck to swerve to the right.

Police say she over-corrected off the right side of the road and went into a tree and a telephone pole. The dump truck also over-corrected, swerved off the road, and went into a tree.

The woman was taken to UK Hospital and we're told she is in stable condition. We're told her injuries are mostly on her legs because she was trapped under the dashboard.

The fire department has called out a HazMat unit because there is trash in the creek from the dump truck.

We're told the road will likely be closed for several hours.
