NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - "It's really amazing that people can come together like this in a community over a tragedy," says Ashley Hamblen, who's raising money for a family suffering from tragedy.
Last month, Steven and Shaila Hibbard, and their three children, were all killed in a crash on U.S. 27 in Nicholasville. Their station wagon crossed the median and hit a van head on.
"It's affected the community because, for a lot of people, it kind of hits home," says Hamblen. "[They think] 'wow that could have been us, that could have been my family.'"
The community continues to come together to help other members of the Hibbard family who are dealing with this terrible loss.
Hamblen is holding a yard sale at her home on Hickory Hill Drive this weekend. All proceeds will go towards the $10,000 still needed to pay for the family of five's funeral costs.
"To bury five at once? That's something that nobody's pocket can handle," Hamblen says.
A little bit of everything can be found for sale at Hamblen's yard sale.
"We've got some old antiques. We've got some car parts. We've got clothes. We've got dish-ware, toys, slip-and-slide rug. We've got everything."
She says it's a small gesture that she hopes will help ease the Hibbard family's mind.
The yard sale will open again Sunday at 7:00 a.m.
