FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A spokeswoman for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steve Beshear's campaign says a larger fundraising figure announced earlier wasn't an attempt to deceive anyone.
A report filed yesterday with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance showed Behear raised four-point-nine million dollars between May 23rd and October tenth, giving him a one-and-a-half million-dollar lead over first-term Republican Governor Ernie Fletcher, not the nearly two million dollars announced on Tuesday.
The Fletcher campaign seized on the discrepancy, alleging that the Beshear campaign had intentionally inflated the numbers.
Beshear spokeswoman Vicki Glass says the larger figure announced Tuesday included nearly 400 thousand dollars worth of "goods and services" donated to the campaign by the Democratic Executive Committee.
