Rudolph, Mongiardo To Square Off In Televised Debate

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - For at least one night, the running mates to Governor Fletcher and Democratic challenger Steve Beshear will be in the limelight.

The candidates for lieutenant governor are set to square off in a debate tonight that will air live on Kentucky Educational Television.

Fletcher's running mate is wealthy western Kentucky businessman Robbie Rudolph. He'll face off with state Senator Daniel Mongiardo, an eastern Kentucky physician who is running with Beshear.

The debate is set for eight p-m (eastern time).

Rudolph and Mongiardo have been low-key in the governor's race. Mongiardo drew attention this month for refusing to cross a picket line at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital where registered nurses are on strike.
