FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Politicians are expected to flock to the
tiny western Kentucky community of Fancy Farm this weekend for a
church picnic that has evolved as a must-attend event for everyone
running for statewide offices.
More than 10,000 people typically attend the get-together at St.
Jerome Parish on the first Saturday in August. Among the attendees
this year will be Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear and his two
challengers in the Nov. 8 general election - Republican David
Williams and independent Gatewood Galbraith.
Political rhetoric is always heated, as is the outdoor pavilion
where speeches will be delivered. Temperatures are predicted to be
in the low 90s, but will feel hotter because of the region's high
humidity levels.
St. Jerome spokesman Mark Wilson said candidates for every
statewide office have confirmed they'll attend.
