Thousands celebrate Governor Beshear's second inauguration

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has officially kicked off his second term in office, any many events are taking place in Frankfort Tuesday to celebrate.

At midnight, the governor was sworn-in during a private ceremony. He will repeat the oath of office, along with Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson, in a public ceremony outside the Capitol at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

It's only the third time in Kentucky history that a governor is being sworn in to two consecutive terms.

Meanwhile, more than 4,000 people lined the streets of Frankfort Tuesday morning for the inaugural parade.

Governor Beshear and his family rode in a horse drawn carriage. He says he's looking forward to all of the day's events.

"Feeling great, feeling great," Governor Beshear said. "Ready to launch into the next four years."

The parade featured more than 100 entries, made up of individuals and marching bands from all over Kentucky.

The events for this inauguration have been scaled back quite a bit from four years ago.

The governor's office stated that the cost of the inauguration is $500,000 less than what was spent for Beshear's first inauguration in 2007.
